Continental Knitting
Description
Knitting with the yarn in one's left hand is commonly referred to as Continental knitting or left-hand knitting. Unlike English knitting, the yarn is held in the left hand; the motion of bringing the yarn forward with a needle held in the other hand is thus sometimes known as picking. Continental knitting is preferred by professional hand-knitters, as it is the more efficient method, requiring the shortest number of specific hand-motions per stitch.

| Just Enough Ruffles Scarf - "starter" class Description A fun, quick-knitting scarf with just enough ruffle, perfect for showing off super soft yarns and handspun yarns! This scarf is shaped with short rows and gently curves towards the ends - perfect for wrapping around your neck with not too much bulk. Keep warm with a nice merino wool, or make it lighter in silk or cotton. Any way you work it, this scarf is just enough! This class will be meeting just one time to get you started on knitting your scarf. Skill Level Beginner/Intermediate, needs to feel comfortable knitting and purling. Materials Required 2 skeins Malabrigo Merino Worsted (215 yd/100g), US 9 32-inch or longer circular needle, and a tapestry needle Session 4 Monday, May 4 from 6-8 PM Cost $15 Einstein Coat Description An interestingly constructed, garter stitch coat with minimal finishing. This is a very easy sweater, but there is a lot of knitting involved, so I've spaced out the classes to have 3 weeks of knitting time in between each class. This is to give you plenty of time to finish your sweater in the length of the class. Skill Level Beginner/Intermediate. You must be comfortable knitting. Materials Required Bulky weight wool or wool blend. Adult sizes 1100 (1200) 1300 (1400) 1500 yds for Chest: 46 (50) 54 (58) 62", 6 1" buttons for adult's, US H-G (5 - 6 mm) crochet hook, The Knitting Experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch Dates Monday, February 23, March 16, and April 6 from 6-8 PM Cost $45 Baby Surprise Description The Baby Surprise Jacket was designed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in 1968 and remains a popular baby garment to this day. It is an excellent pattern for making use of oddments of yarn or self striping yarns with long color repeats, but looks equally nice knit in a single color with a contrasting button band. The jacket is knit in a single piece with just two seams that run across the shoulders and down the length of the sleeves. Commonly referred to as the "BSJ", the baby surprise jacket is a very entertaining piece of knitted engineering. Skill Level Beginner, intermediate Materials Required The Opinionated Knitter by Elizabeth Zimmerman, at least 300-400 yards of whatever weight yarn that you want to use. I would recommend a washable worsted weight, this makes it ready to fit a 12 month old baby. We can discuss yarn choices in more detail in the first class. Needles should be an appropriate size for the yarn that you choose.
